Plane First to Avoid Snipe
When working with raw lumber, be sure to plane your boards before cutting them to size. This prevents the imperfections of snipe from creeping into your working material. In other words, if you mill your raw lumber to thickness before cutting it to size, you can eliminate snipe and work with only the most perfect portions of board.
